Clear Contracts - Why They Matter to You and Your Clients

Tuesday March 8, 2010 7:00pm - 9:00pm

Contractual confusion can lead to litigation and, worse, loss of credibility or reputation. As a business owner, you deal with contracts all the time, and sometimes they're in writing.  What terms should your contract contain? What should they not?  Veronica will explain how you can minimize contractual confusion and, in the process, nurture a clear  communications relationship with your customers.

veronicaarmstrongVeronica Armstrong is a speaker, singer, lawyer and teacher. She is the founder of What's Your Next Step?, which holds seminars for unemployed and under-employed women. Next Step's philosophy is: Dream BIG - take the next small step.

Veronica combines a legal practice with plain language consulting, working with investment firms to develop compliant policies and procedures. For ten years, she was involved in securities regulation and she was formerly the head of the international and corporate legal team of a leading South African bank.

Veronica is a member of the Richmond Singers, a 55-voice womens' choir. She is a volunteer teacher at St. Joseph the Worker parish in Richmond and also with Junior Achievement BC. She mentors immigrant women through the S.U.C.C.E.S.S. organization.

Jill Earthy - An Entrepreneurial Journey

Tuesday April 12, 2010 7:00pm - 9:00pm

altJill Earthy is an entrepreneur with a Master of Business Administration. Throughout her career, Jill has worked with strong leaders to build and deliver programs promoting women in business. Her first employer was an inspirational female entrepreneur who became her mentor and business partner. This relationship led Jill to work with several other successful entrepreneurs and to ultimately become one. In 2001, Jill created a national event staffing company based in Toronto and after only two years, she grew the company to service eight other Canadian cities. Following these successes, Jill sold the business to a Vancouver-based company in 2003. Assuming a Directorship role with this new organization, Jill then drove the growth of the company to double its combined revenue before joining FWE in the spring of 2007. Although Jill’s primary focus is the FWE, she remains an entrepreneur and runs her own company entitled momcafé Network Inc. , which supports professional women who are balancing a stimulating career with raising a family. momcafe has expanded to support women across the country, especially in Vancouver, Prince George, Kelowna, Fraser Valley, Calgary, Ottawa and Toronto with more communities coming on line soon.

A believer in collaboration, Jill brought together the leaders of 25 women’s business networks in the Vancouver lower mainland. These women now meet regularly with the purpose of streamlining the information flow between their organizations in order to efficiently direct women in business to the appropriate resources. In 2009, Jill and two other organizations were responsible for the creation of the Progressive Employers of Canada List. This national initiative was created to put the onus on employers to identify their strategies for being more progressive in order to attract and retain professional women. The 2010 list proved to be an even better tool for educating women to make the best choice for their careers and for helping organizations to share and implement best practices.

Jill’s passion is helping women succeed. She is a mentor for the Women’s Enterprise Centre of BC, a Judge for the RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur of the Year Awards (2010) and is involved in a variety of other community initiatives. Jill currently lives in Vancouver with her husband and two young daughters.

Christopher Flett is an interesting contradiction in terms. A resoundingly alpha male, he focuses primarily on working with women in business. Christopher is a man with a private pass into some of the most powerful offices in North America and spends his time working with entrepreneurs and business owners to help them open doors for themselves. A self-avowed profiteer, he invests much of his time, money and effort working with individuals, groups and communities to make the world a better place. For more than a decade, Christopher has cut a path of success throughout corporate North America as an untraditional business leader.

While Christopher still takes on a limited number of coaching clients (he can't resist it!) clients around the world are now able to work with a Flett trained Ghost CEO/Ghost Adviser, receiving all the energy, expertise and encouragement with a coach located in their town or city. Richmond Launch Event

Tuesday November 30, 2010 7:00pm - 9:00pm

Join local mom entrepreneurs in an evening celebrating the Richmond chapter launch!  Win amazing door prizes, network with other local mom entrepreneurs, indulge in appies, and find out what EMN is all about.  Featuring guest speaker, Traci Costa from Peekaboo Beans.

tracicostaTaking from her own experiences as a new mother, Traci created & designed Peekaboo Beans through the eyes of youngsters who are experiencing the world for the first time. Everything is new to a child; interesting, intriguing, challenging & sometimes overwhelming such as expressing the need for independence but also the need for attachment.

Imagine making all these decisions for the first time - potty training, learning to dress, discovering colours - textures all the sights & sounds. There is no time in our life where we learn more, in fact, it is said that 90% of our learning is done before we are 5! So... comfort, style, ease of dressing, ease of coordination and safety are all combined to foster these elements within Peekaboo Beans. Not to mention, being a parent has new and endless challenges every day too and we understand this! No small snaps or buttons, easy necklines, reversible styles, mix & match, layering - these details all take the guess work out of the daily decisions of dressing making it a snap for parents to wrap their children in love with Peekaboo playwear! Because, we know ... it isn't easy dressing an octopus!

Traci is a recent nominee for Business in Vancouver's Top 40 Under 40 - 2010 and an FWE e-series graduate. Traci will be sharing her entrepreneurial journey in growing Peekaboo Beans, which received Winner of Best in Show in New York Childrens Club, and Winner of the coveted Parent Tested Parent Approved Media Award.
